Thomas M. Beck

On October 2, 2008, Thomas Beck was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate to be a Member of the Federal Labor Relations Authority for a term ending on July 1, 2010. Member Beck is the immediate past Chairman of the FLRA.
Prior to joining the FLRA, Member Beck was a partner in the global law firm Jones Day. He joined Jones Day in 1992 after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law, and spent the next 16 years practicing primarily in the areas of civil litigation and labor and employment law. During his career in private practice, Member Beck appeared in numerous federal and state trial courts throughout the United States; argued cases in several United States Courts of Appeals; represented clients before various administrative agencies; and handled dozens of labor arbitrations.

Member Beck is an adjunct professor at the George Mason University School of Law, teaching in the areas of Separation of Powers and Legislation & Public Policy. He is also a volunteer with Court Appointed Special Advocates of Fairfax County, a non-profit organization that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
